Farrier insurance
Hoofy is not an insurance carrier or broker — we build the Hoofy iPhone app for scheduling and barn paperwork. This page is only education plus a way to ask for a human follow-up if you’re comparing liability options for your shoeing business.
Why you should carry farrier liability insurance
Even careful work carries risk: a horse slips, an owner disputes an injury, a loose animal causes property damage, or someone trips over your gear at the barn. A standalone farrier / equine service liability policy is built for that exposure — different from hoping your homeowner’s policy will stretch to cover a paid client visit.
- Defense costs — if you’re named, lawyers add up fast whether or not you did anything wrong.
- Client expectations — many barns and pros ask for proof of coverage before you’re allowed on the property.
- Business continuity — one incident shouldn’t erase years of shoeing income.
Coverage types, limits, and exclusions vary by carrier and state. Talk to a licensed agent about general liability, care, custody & control if offered, and whether you need an inland marine rider for tools.
